This wonderful bison sculpture has very distinctive features, specifically the contrasting golden yellow crystalline regions surrounded by dark brown angular borders and a smooth grey exterior matrix, which are the exact hallmarks of a Septarian nodule, (also known as as Septarian stone or dragon stone.

These unique stones formed millions of years ago when cracked dry nodules were gradually filled in by mineral deposits. The yellow interior consists of yellow calcite crystals. The dark brown dividing lines are made of aragonite, and the outer grey body is limestone.

The piece has been signed by the carver, Fran Fernley-Smith and dated 1999. A rather wonderful ornament which displays beautifully.
